Leah Hooper

Area Lead Mid & West Wales

My Sandy Bear journey began in 2024 when I joined the team as a Bereavement Practitioner covering Carmarthenshire, supporting families, children and young people as they navigated their grief. I feel incredibly lucky to work alongside children and families, building positive relationships and creating safe spaces where children are encouraged to remember and reflect on fond memories with their special people. In 2025, I was fortunate to take on the role of Area Lead for Mid and West Wales, where I have the privilege of helping to expand and develop our services while raising awareness of the vital support our charity provides.

Before joining Sandy Bear, I studied Education Studies and Additional Learning Needs at The University of Wales Trinity Saint Davids, followed by a Master’s degree in Psychology. I then worked in a secondary school as a Learning Support Assistant and Emotional Literacy Support Assistant, supporting children with complex emotional needs and individuals on alternative learning plans to access mainstream education. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my horses and taking my French Bulldog called Bentley to the beach.
