Sadie James
Area Lead – South East Wales
Hi I’m Sadie!
I began my journey with Sandy Bear in 2023 as a volunteer, and it didn’t take long for me to realise that supporting children and young people through bereavement was something I wanted to pursue as a career. What started as volunteering soon grew into a full-time role as a Bereavement Practitioner, where I had the privilege of helping to establish and grow our service across Swansea at a rapid pace.
A year later, I stepped into the role of Area Lead for South East Wales, an exciting progression and a challenge I’ve embraced wholeheartedly. This role allows me to help shape and develop services in new areas while continuing to do the work I love most: supporting families through grief.
Throughout my time at Sandy Bear, I’ve built meaningful and trusting relationships with children, young people, and their families. I feel incredibly fortunate to do this work, it’s a genuine privilege to support people during some of their most difficult times.
Before joining Sandy Bear, I worked in the NHS and completed a BSc in Human and Social Sciences (BPS accredited) at Cardiff University in 2022. After graduating, I took a gap year to travel through Australia, South East Asia, and Central America, experiencing new cultures, food, and perspectives that I still carry with me today. A few things about me: I’m happiest by the sea, especially if I’m swimming in it with my dog Buddy! I love animals, live music, and spending quality time with my family and friends.
